It is the most thrilling genre and a difficult one involving gaining trust, capturing beauty, life, behavior and action which also helps us in better understanding of nature world.

Wildlife photography needs a lot of patience, dedication and knowledge of the animal you are preparing to click through your lenses. Another issue nature photographers face is timing since most active period for wildlife is dawn and dusk when lighting is very low. Wildlife photographer has to invest in expensive equipment and time. It has been observed that at time to capture a particular shot photographer had put in months and click hundreds of shots.

To become a good wildlife photographer, you have to become a good naturalist first and understand animal behavior well. Visiting natural heritage sites often understanding the habits of wild animals and patience is the biggest asset of any wildlife photographer. For natural sites you can visit national parks and reserves or even wilderness areas near your town. One important factor which helps you in improving is practice, continuous practice involving experimentation.

Some basic equipment you will have to invest are a good SLR camera and few good lenses. If you are interested in birds tele lenses of 400 mm or more are preferable and for macro a good Macro lens of 100mm or like is suggested. Prime lenses have always been preferred over zoom lenses but research has started giving good and sharp zoom lenses with an advantage as you have to carry few lenses and they are not heavy on your pockets. Do carry a good wide angle lens which will help you capture animals in their habitat or may be the local landscape for better understanding of animal world. Other equipment in your kit bag should include a good tripod or monopod for support and getting sharper images, extra battery and memory cards.
